Welcome to This Week in Victoria! Each week, Brother Gary Moses and Chris Doelle sit down and go over all the happenings in the Crossroads.

This episode recap included mentions of past events such as the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame 2025 induction ceremony in Waco, where Chris got to hang out with Patrick Mahomes and Robert Griffin III, as well as Brad Goebel from Cuero. Brad Goebel was also the guest speaker at the Varsity Cup. The episode was recorded on a Wednesday, with the weather described as beautiful but needing rain.

Wednesday

  • Aging Well conference at the community center, going on this morning/afternoon.
  • Chamber luncheon is going on today.
  • Parade of Homes is in its second week, with another round of visits today until about 6 o’clock.

Thursday

  • Live Club meeting at Aerrol Crafters at 12:00.
  • Ribbon cutting at Sweet Serendipity on John Stockfire.
  • Hot Rod Nights at Dairy Treat at 6:00.
  • ABC mixer at Greek Brothers.
  • Friends and Family for Education golf tournament, put on by the Vic Educational Connection, is a par three tournament at Con Creek. Lunch is at 12:00, tee off at 1:00.

Friday

  • Parade of Homes continues through the weekend.
  • Disabled American Veterans barbecue chicken dinner starts at 11:00 at the VFW Hall. It costs $12 a plate and is available for takeout, delivery, or dine-in.
  • Wild About Wine event at the Texas Zoo from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This event includes live music with a jazz band, food, and wine. Chris is the M.C. A donation helps the zoo.
  • Saving Kelly: BP Called Jams at the library at 7:00 p.m..
  • Little League Home Run Derby, put on by Southeast Little League, starts at the Victoria Sports Complex at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night and continues Saturday.
  • Friends of the Library book sale continues all week through Saturday. The books are described as being in great shape and are available at a wonderful price, with proceeds helping the library.
  • Business Success Academy Zoom session completely on branding, titled “Standout or Fade Out: The Power of Personal Branding”, is at 11:30 a.m. You can find a link on the Business Success Academy Facebook page, freshmediawordworks.com, or by reaching out to Chris. It is completely free. Chris and Gary discussed Matthew McConaughey’s and Brother Gary’s personal brands in anticipation of this session.
  • Ribbon cutting at Anytime Fitness on the Houston Highway.

Saturday

  • Parade of Homes continues.
  • Friends of the Library book sale continues through Saturday, when they will close it up.
  • Victoria Puzzle Exchange at the Victoria Mall at 9:30 a.m..
  • Victoria Farmers Market at the Patty Dawson Public Health Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
  • Benefit for Danny Salazar at CWB Hall. It starts at 11:00 a.m. with auctions at 1:00 p.m. It costs $12 a plate and includes live music by Joel Nava at the Texas Border.
  • 5K Foot Pursuit and Donut Dash, put on by the Victoria Police Department for their foundation, is at the Downtown Plaza from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m..
  • A Tea Party is happening downtown at different times from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..
  • Victoria Ballet Academy will have their production of Inspired in the morning at the Leo Joe Wer Center at 10:00 a.m..
  • Girl Power Cyber Cell and Secure at the Victoria Community Center from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., hosted by the Girl Scouts of South Texas.
  • Coast Riders will meet from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Victoria Public Library.
  • Little League Home Run Derby continues (starts Friday night).

Sunday

  • Parade of Homes is in its last day.
  • KC’s pork steak fundraiser at KC Hall starting at 9:00 a.m..

Next Week

  • Brother Gary is on his End of School Tour, visiting various schools including high schools, junior highs, elementary schools, the university, and the college.
  • Brother Gary will be at his old stomping grounds (Patti Welder) on Monday for assembly at 6:00 p.m..

Fall

  • The library will be celebrating 50 years.

Future Events

  • The TLSN Legends Golf Classic will be held at the Great Hills Country Club in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, September 15th. Registration is at 11:00 a.m., tee time around noon, and the awards ceremony at 6:00 p.m. It is open to everyone with an interest in UT athletics and golf. More details, including the lineup of legends, will be available soon on texaslsn.org.
