The Marketing Drive
Short marketing message that you can use right now!
Welcome to The Marketing Drive with Chris Doelle.
This show is so named because I record it unscripted and unedited on my commute to work. When an idea pops in my head, I hit record. You get my off-the-cuff take on anything related to marketing your business. Be sure to send your show ideas and questions and I will use them for future shows!
Today, I want to focus on failure. Sports analogies are great to explain this. Everybody knows that Babe Ruth had the record for the most home runs at one time. However, he also had the record for the most strikeouts. He didn’t focus on those strikeouts, eh focused on hitting the baseball. Another example is the record for the most wins by a pitcher in Major League Baseball. Cy Young had the record for the most wins as a pitcher… but he also had the record for the most losses! Now, let’s move away from baseball and talk about Wayne Gretzky. He said it best when he said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
Failure is nothing. Failure just means you’re trying. That’s it. Failure is one step closer to success. When you’re talking about cold calling, they say something like 2% of cold calls convert. I don’t know if that’s true, but what that means to me is that every no and every hang up takes you one step closer to a yes. That means every time somebody says no, every time somebody hangs up on you, you’re one step closer to that 2%. That means one in every 50 somebody is going to say yes.
So when you get 10 no’s, what does that mean? That means you’re 1/5 of the way to a yes. That’s all. Again, I just want you to keep failure in perspective. Failure is never final until you quit. As long as you keep going, it’s just a step. That’s all it is. Alright, beautiful people, I am Chris Doelle reminding you to keep trying and keep failing but definitely keep getting back up and trying again. Keep it real!
