Dusty Renfro – SWC, Big 12, NFL, WFL and Organ Donor

Season 5 – Episode 5

Welcome to another exciting episode of the Texas Legacy Support Network Show! Hosted by Chris Doelle, TLSN is a 501c3 Texas nonprofit corporation dedicated to sharing the history of all Longhorn Sports and offering temporary financial support to former Longhorn student athletes facing hardship.

Dusty Renfro joins the show to discuss his journey from growing up in Aledo, Texas to becoming a linebacker and fullback at Alvarado High School. A die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan from a young age, Renfro’s football passion led him to a standout career at the University of Texas (UT). He shares his high school achievements, including a district championship and a near-perfect senior season. Renfro was heavily recruited, ultimately choosing UT where he experienced transitions from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12, multiple defensive coordinators, and played under coaches like John Mackovic and Mack Brown. He recalls highlights such as the first Big 12 Championship and the famed game against Nebraska. Post-college, Renfro briefly played for the Buffalo Bills and NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire, winning a World Bowl. After his football career, he transitioned into commercial real estate and established Gridiron Land Company. Renfro also shares a personal story about donating a kidney to his father. He is active in supporting former athletes through the Texas Longhorns Support Network (TLSN) and will be a featured legend at the upcoming TLSN Legends Golf Classic.
