Welcome to Episode 84 of The Marketing Drive with Chris Doelle.
Podcasting is a very amazing and extremely fine tuned engine for marketing. Podcasts work in marketing, it is proven and continues to be so.
This show is so named because I record it unscripted and unedited on my commute to work. When an idea pops in my head, I hit record. You get my off-the-cuff take on anything related to marketing your business. Be sure to send your show ideas and questions and I will use them for future shows!

Hey everybody welcome back to the Marketing Drive, I am Chris Doelle and this is the show where I use my commute time to talk about one actionable marketing idea, or thought, or tip…something that’ll be helpful to you that I can quickly relay while I’m driving. Today, I wanna talk about podcast and the first thing that came to mind was me starting off saying something like “Okay, I know I’m beating a dead horse”. But that’s the absolute worst analogy when it comes to podcasting because podcasting is not a dead horse. Podcasting is a thoroughbred. This is isn’t about beating something that is laying their dead. It’s about this horse is running…it’s running fast, you better get on it; if you get on it you’re gonna cross that finish line and you’re gonna succeed. So I think that’s a better analogy. I mentioned podcast a lot, hardly because I’m a big fan, but mostly because they work. Did you know, here’s an interesting fact…I’m not one for facts or figures; I don’t remember them but I read this today and it just blew me away. “Twenty-one percent of Americans have listened to a podcast within the last month. Think about that, twenty- one percent of 350 million people have listened to a podcast. Ten years ago, this stuff was brand new. It was only me and about 4-5 people doing podcast, we were all listening to the same podcast over each other stuff and high-fiving each other talking about “Oh this is awesome, isn’t it? This is amazing”. But I tell you, this is big; 21% of Americans listen to podcast, that’s huge. And that is an easy way for you to dip your toe in the content marketing pool. Now I talked about content marketing, it’s a scary, scary thing for people who don’t get it. They’re like “Oh no, I gotta write all these things, I’ve gotta become an author…I’ve gotta do all these stuff blah…blah…blah”. I know you all don’t talk like that, right? But seriously, it’s seems scary but with podcast like this one here…I tell you step by step how I make this and I’ll show you just how easy it is. While I’m driving I’m running the Voice Memos app on my iPhone, hands-free because I don’t want to crash. I hit record, I have my Bluetooth headsets on so I just start talking…when I’m done, I hit stop very simple and I can wait till I pull over or I can do whatever I need to. I can stop it, I can save the file then I upload it to Dropbox. Okay, I upload to Dropbox just because I don’t have to do plugging in my phone to a computer and copy the files and all that stuff. I hate that, that’s just work. So I used tool…use the tools that are there. You have an iPhone…you have a smartphone; it has a voice recorder, use it. And then I guarantee there’s a way for you to send the file from that. So you send that file then you pull it in to a program like Audacity…another free program; everything I’m talking to you about is free. It’s just a little bit of ingenuity about how to use it and a little bit of time. You pull in on the Audacity, you can cut out any mash ups, and you can add audio buffers you know the show intro or background music. If you don’t want to go through all that, you don’t have to! You can leave it extremely raw. You can just have “Boom, this is it”. And let your content carry the day. And then, you export that as .mp3, post it up to your blog, share that blog feed post out to the world and you’re a podcast! That’s it! I mean there are some technicalities about getting the feed in the right format that iTunes needs. But here’s the other beautiful thing about this entire thing, I will tell you exactly how to do it. I won’t charge you for that; if you want me to do it for you…yeah I’ll have to charge you. But information to me is power, yes, it’s wonderful and that’s my gift to you is information. That’s what I do. When I put on seminars, when I do luncheon learns, when I do webinars, when I do this show, I’m giving information. I am not charging for that because I feel that’s me giving back for everything I’ve gotten in life. I share information…I got friends who are not info sharers they’re like “Oh no, I gotta keep it close, somebody else is run with it”. I don’t care because I know that the real power, the real success comes from taking action. So I will give away every single secret I discover and just be happy that you know it and that I was able to help you in your journey. And then somewhere, somehow down the line you’ll say “Hey, I’m in a problem with this. Hey, let me call Chris”. And you call me up and you know we’ll talk. I’ll either talk you through it or you’ll say “I’m tired over here let me tell you, you just do it”, either way it all works out. Sorry to get off on that subject but I tell you podcasting is so simple. It is the simplest thing…there’s no typing involved, there’s nothing. It’s just talking and you know your subject, right? I mean whatever you do for a living. Whether you’re a plumber, a bricklayer, a nurse, a teacher…it doesn’t matter what you do for living. You know that subject; you can talk with authority about your subject so get on there and do it! And people will listen!
